My gums bleed and hurt every time I brush. I usually brush once a day before I go to bed. I don’t know if this matters but I am 37 years old. This happened to me before when I was younger but it got better. I have tried different mouth rinses and changed tooth paste but it’s not getting better. My dentist told me it was not a serious problem and don’t worry about it. Is this something I should worry about?
Dr. Devoll’s Response
Bleeding gums is a sure sign that your gums are trying to fight off an infection. Once a day brushing is not enough for the average person, you should bump that up to morning and evening. Find a way to clean between your teeth such as dental floss, proxy brush or soft picks, or whatever is comfortable for you. Based on the symptoms you described it is very likely that you have some type of gum disease. We would be glad to see you at our office as a new patient. We can help you with your problem.
